When billing for an Lp(a) test, use CPT code 836953
  • Some insurance companies may require additional documentation to demonstrate medical necessity when covering an Lp(a) test​

Document your patient’s diagnosis
  • For patients diagnosed with elevated Lp(a) levels, consider documenting the diagnosis using code E78.41 “Elevated Lp(a),”4 within your EHR/EMR systems. This will help standardize diagnosis and documentation
